BRASS CARE
First, A Note on Brass
Brass has been admired for centuries for its warmth, versatility, and enduring beauty. An alloy primarily composed of copper and zinc, brass dates back as early as ancient civilizations, where it was prized for its golden glow and ability to be both functional and decorative. Another element that adds to its quiet luxury is its longevity. Brass is naturally resistant to corrosion and, when cared for, can last for generations, one of the reasons so many vintage pieces remain as striking today as when they were first made.
What makes brass especially captivating is that no two pieces are exactly alike. The precise blend of metals can vary, some compositions richer in copper, others with higher zinc content, resulting in subtle differences in tone. This is why, when polished, brass can reveal a range of hues from soft champagne gold to deeper, more amber or honeyed tones.
Over time, brass develops a natural patina, a soft aging that many collectors cherish. Others prefer to restore its original brilliance, bringing forward its luminous, reflective quality. Whether left to age gracefully or polished to a radiant shine, brass carries with it a sense of history, craftsmanship, and quiet luxury, each piece telling its own story through both its form and its finish.

What We Use
To restore brass to its most beautiful state, we rely on a few trusted essentials, simple, effective, and time-tested.
Our primary cleaner is Liquid Bar Keepers Friend, which gently removes tarnish and buildup while revealing the natural warmth of the metal beneath. It’s a staple in our process and one we’ve come to trust for consistent, beautiful results.
After cleaning, we often finish with Simichrome Polish, a refining step that enhances the luster and brings out the depth and reflective nature of the brass, especially when different metal compositions reveal varying tones.
We always recommend using rubber gloves and a soft sponge during the process. These products are highly effective but can be harsh on the skin, so protecting your hands is key.
